MICS

MICS, or Medical Implant Communication Service is a specialised wireless communication standard specifically developed for communication between devices implanted inside a living human or animal body, and the outside world.

It operates in the frequency band of between 401 and 406 MHz, is two-way, and has a maximum power level of 25 microwatts, both to keep the patient's organic tissue safe over long-term exposure, and to minimise cross-communication with the implants of patients other than the intended. Operating range is just a few inches, making it ideal for body area networking (BAN) but not much else. It allows data transfer at up to 300kb/sec, which is believed more than sufficient for any implant devices in the foreseeable future.
