Biometric

A biometric is a single signal sent from a biological organism that represents a unique characteristic. An example would be the neural code to lift the pinky finger, or to flex the ball joint at the base of the thumb. An idle thought picked up by a neural reader would be another.

They are essentially direct data input methods from the body. They may be unique to that individual as in the use of biometrics for security purposes, or they may be shared among individuals but reflect a specific purpose, such as a reflex knee-jerk reaction.

The latter type of biometric is the one of most interest to VR purposes – reading the body's signals and determining what command was issued, or what thought went through the mind, so as to determine what action to take with the virtual interface. Biometrics are perhaps the most advanced form of interface between the mind and the simulation.
